Music is a wonderful way for you to calm and soothe
your baby, especially during the first year. How many times have your
heard parents say that there was nothing that they could do with their
crying, fussing baby until they tried music. This is because music does
indeed soothe the savage beast, or in this case, the baby.
There are certain distinct sounds that have been proven to calm even fussy
babies: the sounds of nature, white noise, and music. Even if your baby
isn’t fussing or crying you may want to use music as often as you can to
encourage that feeling of calm and peacefulness. All it takes is a few
minutes every day and before you know it your baby will be looking forward
to hearing that certain song emanating from the CD player.
There is nothing complicated or mysterious about introducing your baby to
music from day one. You don’t need to search for the perfect song or a
certain type of music. All you have to do is start by having your baby
listen to your favorite songs and music. If jazz is on the top of your
list, let your baby listen to the sounds of John Coltrane as he sits in
his baby seat watching you in the kitchen. It doesn’t matter if you play
the schmaltzy songs of the eighties or some wicked African beat, your baby
is going to listen and his mood is going to be altered by any musical
sound that he hears.
Besides the music that you yourself can introduce your baby to, there are
hundreds of CDs on the market today that are filled with baby songs and
lullabies. At the end of the day you may want to play a CD of quiet baby
songs that have a slower beat. There are so many CDs for you to choose
from that you will have a hard time making up your mind. Choose something
that interests you. Many baby CDs will have lullabies and faster beat
songs on the same CD.
Playing music has other benefits besides soothing your fussy, crying baby.
These benefits include:
-
Babies are introduced to musical sounds.
-
Music enhances your baby’s behavior and cognitive skills.
-
Relieves stress for the entire family.
-
Will stimulate curiosity and an interest in music.
Take time to find a variety of music CDs for
your baby to listen to. You’ll soon notice which music your baby is most
drawn to and can use that music when he is particularly fussy or is
crying.

A collection of real
sounds that actually lull babies to sleep. Featuring unique things like a
window fan blowing, a car driving, rain, a fireplace... even a vacuum-cleaner!
Designed by a Los Angeles recording engineer in the Film and TV Industry, it's
a "must-have" for new parent's, and makes a great gift for friends and family
with infants, or for those who are expecting them.
A unique lullaby CD
created and performed by Carina Norlund, a Swedish world-known
singer/songwriter with an extensive background in music and child development.
Unique because of its approach; soothing, dreamy and simplistic melodies
surrounded by calming sounds, familiar even to the youngest babies, and added
with Carina's sweet, crystal clear voice. The songs are put in an order so to
become more and more relaxing and the last song ends in a fade to avoid
awakening the sleeping baby (or parent!).
One mom's review..."Too
beautiful for words(but I'll give it my best shot), "Fairy Dreams - Magical
Lullabies" is a soft, and soothing mix of traditonal folk lullabies, with a
special added touch of warmth by Linda Ronstadt. It is music that will lull
anybody into a beautiful state of relaxation, and would be a beautiful bonding
experience for any parent and child. Just sit back in that rocker, hold your
child in your lap and let this album work it's magical spell on you.
Opening with the instumental "Winter Light", Ronstadt's mesmerizing
collaboration with esteemed composer Zbigniew Preisner("Three Colors
Trilogy/The Decalogue"),you are already transfixed.New and wonderfullly sweet
renditions of "Hush Little Baby","Moon and Me","All The World Is
Sleeping","Dream a Beautiful Dream" and "Sleep Baby Sleep" are just a few of
the songs that will stay with you for sometime afterwards..."
Developed under the
guidance of physician Fred Schwartz, the Transitions recordings serve
both to enhance the miracle of childbirth and to aid infant sleep. Looking to
reduce the stress of parents and infant children, musicians Joe and Burt Wolff
worked with Dr. Schwartz to combine digital samples of actual womb sounds,
barely discernable female vocals, and the soft wash of other atmospheric
sounds. Recommended by childbirth educators and infant-development specialists
for its relaxing effect, Transitions has been clinically proven to
stimulate the blood oxygen levels of premature infants in critical care. For
weary parents on a midnight walkabout to quiet agitated babies, it's a
blessing that induces sleep almost magically.
Transitions 2:
Music To Help Baby Sleep is the second in a series of recordings developed by
a physician to help infants sleep and relieve the stress of chilbirth for both
mother and baby. Soothing instrumental and vocal music is blended with womb
sounds and the rhythm and sound of mother's breathing to create a truly
relaxing sonic environment. When used during labor & delivery. Transitions may
be effective in reducing the amount of medication needed for pain. As a source
of comfort, and an expression of love, Transitions is the perfect way to say
"welcome" to a family's new addition. Recommended by childbirth educators and
infant development specialists.
